Visibility Induction for Discretized Pursuit-Evasion Games

چکیده
We study a two-player pursuit-evasion game, in which an agent moving amongst obstacles is to be maintained within “sight” of a pursuing robot. Using a discretization of the environment, our main contribution is to design an efficient algorithm that decides, given initial positions of both pursuer and evader, if the evader can take any moving strategy to go out of sight of the pursuer at any time instant. If that happens, we say that the evader wins the game. We analyze the algorithm, present several optimizations and show results for different environments. For situations where the evader cannot win, we compute, in addition, a pursuit strategy that keeps the evader within sight, for every strategy the evader can take. Finally, if it is determined that the evader wins, we compute its optimal escape trajectory and the corresponding optimal

The Role of Visibility in Pursuit / Evasion Games
The cops-and-robber (CR) game has been used in mobile robotics as a discretized model (played on a graph G) of pursuit/evasion problems. The “classic” CR version is a perfect information game: the cops’ (pursuer’s) location is always known to the robber (evader) and vice versa. Many variants of the classic game can be defined: the robber can be invisible and also the robber can be either advers...
متن کاملAnytime algorithms for multi-agent visibility-based pursuit-evasion games
We investigate algorithms for playing multi-agent visibilitybased pursuit-evasion games. A team of pursuers attempts to maintain visibility contact with an evader who actively avoids tracking. We aim for applicability of the algorithms in real-world scenarios; hence, we impose hard constraints on the run-time of the algorithms and we evaluate them in a simulation model based on a real-world urb...
متن کاملVisibility Graphs, Dismantlability, and the Cops and Robbers Game
We study versions of cop and robber pursuit-evasion games on the visibility graphs of polygons, and inside polygons with straight and curved sides. Each player has full information about the other player’s location, players take turns, and the robber is captured when the cop arrives at the same point as the robber. In visibility graphs we show the cop can always win because visibility graphs ar...

The “classical” CR version is a perfect information game: the cop’s (pursuer’s) location is always known to the robber (evader) and vice versa. More relevant to robotics are versions where one (or both) player is invisible. In this paper we study the extent to which the CR game bec...
متن کاملVisibility-Based Pursuit-Evasion in Three-Dimensional Environments
The problem of visibility-based pursuit-evasion was first introduced in 1992 by Suzuki and Yamashita [19]. Since then, it has attracted considerable attention in the communities of robot motion planning and computational geometry. Researchers have considered many variations of the problem, including curved environments[11]; pursuers equipped with one or two “flashlights”, or rays of visibility[...
